Dead Time: Slang term used by paranormal investigators to refer to the hours of 2-4AM. In their attempt to communicate with the dead,it is believed that the stillness and silence of the night make it a more appropriate time to communicate with the spirit world.

Disembodied Voice/ Voice Phenomenom: A voice you can hear in real time, that has no solid mass or body to it.

Electro Magnetic Field: Better known as EMF. Where their is a high electromagnetic field disrupting the earth, some people believe this could be as a result as a entity trying to manifest itself.

EMF Sweep: A base reading done to notice any fluctuations on the EMF detector while conducting our investigation.

EVP: Also known as EVP. Refers to a voice picked up using electronic recorders. These voices are not heard in real time, but only afterwards on recorders. There are 3 different types of class of EVPs:

Class A:
Voices are very clear and easily understandable by many.
Class B:
Voices are fairly loud and clear and are sometimes audible without headphones.
Class C:
Voices are very soft and often indecipherable. These tend to be researcher dependent.

Fear Cage: A fear cage is where you are in a certain area which is surrounded with high electromagnetic field (EMF) which can cause people to have different feelings such as paranoia, nausea, itching, or a feeling of being watched.

Moisture Sweep: A base reading is done to notice any fluctuations on the moisture detector while conducting our investigation.

Temperature Drop: It is believed that when an entity is trying to manifest, it will lower the temperature by gathering the energy in that area creating a temperature drop of a significant amount, perhaps 10-20 degrees..

Temperature Sweep: A base reading is done to notice any fluctuations on the temperature gauge while conducting our investigation.

Voice Recorder: Is a digital voice recorder. It is used to pick up EVP (electronic voice phenomenon); these are voices and sounds that are collected that you were unable to hear at the time with your own ears.

EMF Detector: An EMF detector detects Electromagnetic fields. It is believed that a spirit is made up of energy, if they are present the energy will manipulate the earths magnetic field.

K2 Meter: The K2 meter is similar to an EMF Detector, however it is able to locate Electro Magnetic Frequencies as well as Fields. The team uses this device in locations in hopes to communicate with spirits by asking them to light up the lights.

Tri-Field Meter: The Tri-Field meter is a device we use that we can decipher what exact energy we are picking up. It is able to detect Radio, Electric as well as Micro waves. This is used so it is we can determin what exactly is setting off our detector.

Geo Phone: This device is able to pick up the slightest vibrations. This is able to be placed in a area like an attic where people have noise complaints such as footsteps. The Geo Phone emits a high pitch sound when it is set off.

Digital Thermometer: Cold and hot spots are one of the most common symptoms of spiritual activity. Thermometers are used to find temperature drops. Look for temperature fluctuations of 10 degrees or more.

IR Camera: A video camera that is equipped with infrared technology, which helps the camera pick up light off of objects and brighten up the room to help record video.

DVR System: The DVR system lets us record up to 200 feet in total darkness, with 4 different cameras in hopes that we can capture something even though we were not in the room at the time.

Digital Camera: Digital cameras are useful for capturing any possible apparitions, orbs, or manifestations.

Wireless Audio: This is another form of device that we use to capture E.V.P. This device you are able to listen to in live time as it hooks up directly into our laptop which is recording the audio. It sends the signal from the microphone to the receiver, which sends the signal into the laptop.

Intelligent Haunting:

This is the type of haunt that is most often thought of when people are describing a paranormal experience. These are the types of haunts during which you will find your typical ghostly activities, such as sounds (slamming, opening and closing of doors and windows), voices, smells, and physical interaction with the living. These energies are usually doing things like this to let you know they are there because they just want company or assistance to help get to the other side. Spirits are rarely seen manifested into an apparition or a mist.
The most common belief is that the ghost is connected to the site or people in some way.

Some reasons the ghost may be tied to the site or people:

1. Died as a result of a traumatic event, murder, car accident, etc.
2. Due to unfinished business.
3. The spirit may have died suddenly and not realized he/she died.
4. The living loved ones are so emotionally distraught they can’t let go.
5. The spirit is emotionally connected to their loved ones.
6. They cannot rest due to an injustice done to them.
7. Fear of the other side or judgment

Residual Haunting:

A residual haunt is believed to be activity of reccurring or traumatic actions from past events that leave an imprint on the environment.

This is probably the most common type of haunting. Because its characteristics are similar to an intelligent haunting, people often mistake it for an intelligent/traditional haunting. Like intelligent haunts, some examples of activity are phantom footsteps, sounds, images, and scents. One major difference between this haunting and the intelligent/traditional haunting, is that this type of haunting is not considered to be that of a ghost, and there is no interaction with the living.

It is believed that this activity is the dissipation of stored energy from the site. The theory is the energy is stored or absorbed by the site due to repetitive or traumatic events of the energy expended while performing such actions. Similar to a tape player, the energy is stored in the magnetic field of the environment. Over time the energy builds up and is discharged showing a replay of the event, and then the cycle starts again. Some suggest that atmospheric conditions such as storms may initiate the playback. There is also a quantum physics theory that relates the energy as light particles that are dormant until they are stimulated by an outside variable under the proper conditions. (Brandon, The Ghost Hunters Bible) Researchers have observed that the energy tends to diminish over periods of time until eventually it is either exhausted, or the level is so low that it is not experienced again.

Portal Haunting:

Portals are not really a new concept. We have been exposed to them in many sci-fi flicks. In the real world, portal hauntings are considered controversial as there is little known about them and the idea is mostly theory or speculation. Portals are thought to be doorways to another world or dimension in which entities travel through. It is speculated that portals are not limited to one location, region or sacred ground. Typically, places that experience a wide array of different types of anomalous activity such as glowing balls of light, odd creatures, strange shapes, or unexplained mists or fog, are suspected to have a portal in which these energies are traveling back and forth.

Poltergeist Haunting:

This is the most noisy and destructive of paranormal activity. They are the true noise makers and can cause quite a bit of noise and havoc. Frequently, the haunting circles around a female in her teen years. Some of these cases seem to be caused by the female unknowingly controlling the energy around her.

Demonic Haunting:

Demonic Haunts are one of the known inhuman entities out there. Fortunately, they are a rare occurrence. When a demonic spirit is in the house it is very hard to miss. They leave an awful stench like the smell of burnt flesh, growling can frequently be heard and they are more apt to physical contact via shoving, pushing, scratching or even hitting someone.

A Ghost:

Is the disembodied soul of a deceased person that has not successfully crossed over to the other side. Ghosts become attached to a location for many different reasons that we will never be able to explain. They also do not feel as if they are deceased and do not know to cross over.

A Spirit:

Is a person who has passed away and has successfully made the transition over to the other side. They often get mistaken for being a ghost, but unlike a ghost they are not stuck here in this world and often just come to visit with us and return back over as often as they would like.
